6 Ways to Re-enter Real Life After a Summer Break
You spent a lot of time organizing your trip, but do you have a return strategy in place? It can be a big shift to return to the routines of work and school. Here are some tips to get better at vacation recovery.
1. Make the most of your recharged battery
Free time offers us a chance to unwind and reenergize so that we can think more clearly about what's working and what isn't. Perhaps you come to the realization that you need to start getting more sleep, exercise more, invest in your health or spend more time with the people you love. Make use of that boost in vitality and take action!
2. Include a buffer day
Allow yourself some time to unpack, unwind, and think back on your experiences after a fulfilling vacation. Diving straight into the daily grind strips away all those happy vacation vibes, and youngsters may find it especially difficult to adjust. Return a day or two early (say, on Saturday rather than Sunday) so they can settle in and you have time to unpack and catch up.
3. Manage jet lag
A time change of even a few hours can mess with your mood and sleeping schedule, specially when it comes to children. In the days before you return home, if you can, gradually change your bedtimes. Also, pick your flights carefully: if your kids can sleep on planes, take an overnight journey; if you believe they'll be too excited to sleep, choose a daytime flight. Make sure they receive plenty of sunlight at home and try to have regular meals.
4. Arrive at a tidy home, and dinner!
Although it can be challenging to clean up before you leave on vacation, doing so will make your return much more pleasurable. Also, it’s hard getting home tired and hungry—and realize that there’s nothing in the house to eat. Plan ahead so coming home can be made more enjoyable rather than stressful. Get takeaway from your favourite resturant or keep a good frozen meal on the fridge that you frozen before your vacation - here are some amazing recipes from our Registered Holistic Nutritionist Sandra Carvajal.
5. Start moving ASAP when you feel ready
After a long-haul flight or road trip, in the first 24h keep your exercise light with activities such as stretching and walking, specially outdoors to get some sunlight and fresh air. In the coming days, go for short sun, fast walk or swim if you can.
6. Do your body right!
If you can, get a massage from a registered Physio, or a Lymphatic drainage! This is specially beneficial 24 hours after landing or in the coming days. At Central & Stanley Wellness, you can book an invigorating Ayurvedic massage from our Registered Physiotherapist Hanish Daryanani.
